i love me some Bruce, but . . .

now, i seriously love me some bruce springsteen, but i dont think i would kill for him. okay maybe for like great concert tickets and access to the v.i.p. area, i might accidentally hit someone with my car.

however, this woman in australia has taken it to the stratosphere in showing her love and devotion for bruce. Apparently, she stabbed her boyfriend to death for not letting her listen to some bruce. when arrested, she explained that she got tired of not being able to play bruce and indicated that it was unbelievable that her wouldnt let her.

now i support her desire to listen to the boss but 8 years in jail is a little much to pay for the privilege.

i did not make this up. you can find it here at cnn

ridiculous, yet also kinda punk

ridiculous because: Tom Jones (yes that short welsh dude who has panties thrown at him alot) has had his chest hair (!) insured by Lloyd's of London for 7 million dollars. thats right 7 mill. i wonder what has to happen to his chest hair for him to get the payout. attack by a rabid fan with Nair? going gray? turning green from a combination of dye, tanning stuff, and pool chemicals? an allergic reaction to chest hair plumping product that makes it fall out? what would be considered an act of god, therefore relieving the insurers from having to pay?

kinda punk because: he convinced these people to insure his chest hair. CHEST HAIR! that took some smooth talking and in a way deconstructing the myth of celebrity and rockstardom by exemplifying the utter ridiculousness of their lives, as well as the skewed vision of what is important and their worth. um . . . i kid.

also: who convinced him this would be a good idea? do the really old ladies who still love him really care about his chest hair? would they really stop seeing his shows if he lost all the hair tomorrow? why does he still take his shirt off? were the guys who drew up this policy high? how were they convinced they would make their money back? what is the insurance premium on this policy?

scary parents

one of my students came in today with a motorcycle helmet (he later got in trouble for checking out the bike shop website rather than doing research for his project). i heard him later talking to his friends about the motorcycle.

this makes me wonder at the utter irresponsibility and stupidity of some people. the kid is 14!!! furthermore, he is not one of the brightest stars in the sky, nor does he have a good head on his shoulders. do his parents want to kill him?

just because someone has the disposable income doesnt mean that the child should get everything he desires. i just dont get it. i wouldnt drive a car in bucharest let alone allow a child, who has no sense of his mortality and prone to risk taking behavior (characteristic of 14 year old males), on a guaranteed organ donor machine. i hope he stays okay but statistics are against him.

MY EYES! MY EYES!

MY EYES! DEAR LORD! MY EYES!

i was gonna post this yesterday but we had a brown out and i thought it best to go to sleep. good decision cause i woke up massively well rested.

yesterday, minding my own business , waiting for a train to the post office, i was assaulted. visually that is. cant even tell you how truly hellacious it was. i can only be thankful for small favors - since i was underground and its a bit darker than the full-on sunglasses needing sunlight on the outside. i saw a woman in a purple skirt- which was okay. she was wearing high heeled pumps with really skinny heels and super pointy shoes - which was fine. she had on black tights - copacetic. but here is the horror - she had on bright purple legwarmers. they covered half of her foot (i guess making them foot and legwarmers) and up to her calves. i dont get it. why? why? why?

i dont even know how she could wear them. aside from being heinously ugly, isnt it uncomfortable to have things bunched up under your feet and walking on them. i guess i should give her props for being all fashion forward but i wonder at the adoption of a style that was crazy back in '85. also i ask, when is this "every thing from the 80s is awesome " trend gonna end?

oh Dear Lord! Save Me!

i have seen the coming of the end! and it comes in the form of leg warmers. i dont know why this is a trend but kids are wearing leg warmers. now not only do i have to deal with the sight of the tucking in and some of the craziest boots ever (which will soon become attractive to me - its kinda like a stockholm syndrome thing) but now people are wearing leg warmers on top of jeans! with crazy shoes and maybe crazy knee socks poking out. Why! Why! i beg you, tell me why!

i can understand if your like a dancer and need something to warm the bare legs but over jeans?
