brains just wasting away

even though i have 3 courses i should be doing work for and studying, this is what my brain is focused on.

i saw a pic of mischa barton the other day and it brought this to mind.

remember the movie the never ending story. that has got to be one of the best movies of ALL time and of my childhood. its one of the reasons i dont like religious movies.
1. i hate being preached too.
2. they tend to be boring. they need to get some jet li in there with some wolverine - not superman cause he sucks - and throw in some keanu reeves for me to watch. maybe am not the target demographic cause i dont think that will ever happen.
3. the never ending story. when i was a kid, i would look at the tv guide and see that the greatest story ever told was gonna be on and would be sooooooooooooooooooo excited. cause my child brain always (not the brightest as this happened many times) confused it with the never ending story - bastion, atreyu, falkor, the child empress. i would be in heaven, on cloud nine waiting for one of my faves to come on. only to be driven into the depths of despair when i saw some dirty people with greasepaint and beards running around in a desert about something or another. this could also be the reason why am not fond of beards and grease paint though i do like deserts.

anyway, back to misha barton and the movie. every time i see her the image of falkor - the luck dragon comes to mind. she kinda looks like him. and i mean this in a super nice way, cause i loved falkor. i wanted one, though it took me a long time to realize that he wasnt a dog being called a dragon but was from east asian mythology therefore not looking like a lizard.

and every so often, i listen to the song and dream. after seeing and loving the movie, i read the book and it was horrible. may have been a good book, but totally ruined the movie for me.

totally random

just came from a christening - was a great experience - more on that later. but at the restaurant (which was part of a hotel) where the after dunking party was held had a tv on. sound as off cause music was blaring, but there was a steven segal movie on. he is one of the greatest (if you define this to a very narrow definition) actors ever. remembered the joy i used to get as a kid watching his movies and him kicking but and providing soulful (again, with limitations) insights to the human condition. mostly i loved the fighting and that the good guys always won. he shoots alot of movies in romania (mostly cause he's like fat and cant fight anymore and they all go straight to video). so anyway, not this weekend (am going to sibiu) or next next weekend (gotta give myself time to amass them) am gonna have a weekend of culture (limited) with a marathon of steven segal movies. maybe they will pass the test of time.

when i grow up, i wanna . . .

i know, the frequency of blog posts is mind boggling.

i have just found/decided on a new career path. i just found out about this and am totally excited. apparently there is such a thing as elk calling (i realized there must be for hunting). not only to people learn and practice elk calling but there are competitions. as you may have realized from these bits about my life, i am absolutely in love with the ridiculous, inane, and useless. this one is prime! okay, so now i can learn to do it and compete. but did you know there are people who do this professionally? i mean really - isn't that awesome? i am sure that i could be a champion elk caller. this is way better than the whole International Air Guitar Championships (this really exists). at least i can make a living calling elks for fake.

am totally ditching this teaching thing and going into training.

procrastination

i was procrastinating at work today so i took a procrastination survey. some people at a university somewhere were doing some research on procrastination. ironically the research took a couple of years longer to complete than expected.

hey you can't fault me, contrary to popular belief high school geography and history is just not that fascinating.

guess how i scored. it can be found here. have fun and onward with the procrastination.

i wonder . . .

if cats get embarrassed.

Ziggy - she of the stardust - is not a very successful cat. i think it may be because her tail is too long. Maybe she will grow into it.

the thing is she's always trying to leap on things and be all agile and graceful. sadly, graceful she is not. she just attempted a leap from the counter to the top of the fridge, only the went splat against the side of the fridge. it was like one of those roadrunner cartoons and the coyote just hits the side of the cliff and slides off. i laughed. she didnt try it again right then.

she does this alot. this usually leads to the breaking of things. but its still funny. maybe she doesnt appreciate me laughing at her. she's still crazy cute though

new but sad addiction

been playing a lot of text twist recently. you know cause i gotta find something to do in between games of jawbreaker.

have realized that am on a somewhat rapid decline. will be drooling and pooping on myself real soon. i went through a bout of playing it alot about 18 months ago. sad to say this time around am way way dumber at the game. have yet to reach my previous high score. if am really hardcore, i get about 2/3 of the way before going caput. its very sad and am a bit ashamed that i cant think of words like 'ret' and stuff. is that even a real word?

to be fair (really just whining and trying to make myself seem less stupid) i would do much better if the game accepted bad words, words in other languages, place names and slang. its not too much to ask for is it?

an interesting allergy

as far as i know i'm not allergic to anything. but i was reading one of my fave sites and came across this article. some women apparently are allergic to sex. that is always a good excuse i guess, but the treatment for this allergy - - somewhat embarassing. i think i would be massively uncomfortable seeking treatment for this one.

sadness abounds

yesterday i braved the snow in an attempt to get philharmonic tickets (diff between that and orchestra?). in doing so i came to the somewhat uncomfortable realization that snow is pretty to look at but not that fun to be in. you may not realize it but its like cold wet rain. oh and it hurts a little. it was less fluff and more like little shards of ice. they looked to be floating to the ground in a whimsically romanitic way when i looked out the window but seem to speed up and plummet towards my face when i went outside. i think i may have micro sized snow cuts on me face. i wonder if this is a condition that dermatologists have studied. am sure to find out that it ages the face rapidly which would account for the attractive young ladies and babushka-esque scarf wearing old ladies who dont believe in bras. i guess its all punk rock and feminist but i get a little scared.

anyway i totally brave this and the evil cars as they purposefully park on the sidewalk so you have to walk really close to the edge. then other cars cheerfully drive though puddles to try and splash you. i wonder if this is a game they play, like car bullies. this could be turned into a video game and then give points for running over little old ladies or junies. so i go to the concert hall to get tickets, and in totally romanian fashion (no smile or even a half-hearted attempt at sympathy) - am told that tickets go on sale on tuesday. the freaking show is on thursday. dear lord! its not like (insert awesome/rubbish band that inspires rabid obession in fans) is playing. now i will have to brave it all again to try and get tickets. then brave it again to go to the show. woe is me!

anyway aside from not getting any tickets i now find out that doogie howser is gay. this breaks the heart of the 10 year old girl who is buried somewhere inside of me. always loved a nerd. excuse me, i gotta go drown my sorrows in tofu

elephant crackup

i just read this article about an elephant problem worldwide. seems that elephants around the world are cracking up and going on rampages. its like they know they are doomed and are going out with a bang. "if i'm gonna die, i'm gonna take as many of you with me as i can!"

its quite sad actually. basically the breakdown of elephant society mirrors what happens in our own disenfranchised neighborhoods. in addition to other stuff - this one flummoxed me - raping and killing rhinos.

we are probably the worse thing that has ever appeared on the planet. kinda wonder when will the earth rise in mutiny and get rid of us. with that said gotta go exercise my rights as a member of a capitalist consumer society and go buy more stuff.

Lazy is as lazy does

I know that there was a promise of pics and all but i've managed to do nothing contructive.

Since am sharing an apt, i feel the need to enjoy my space when i can. she talks to me and stuff when she is home. you must know how i pretty much dont like people unless i initiate contact. so roommate was gone and i and my computer bonded. very little sleep but lots of downloading.

thank god for a fast connection. i seen the season premiers of such greats as greys anatomy all of the csi's. have to say csi miami was faintly disappointing. and whats up with their sense of time. i mean they fly to brazil and back in like a day. i mean still broad daylight out. then they still have time to solve the crime. the flight to rio takes like 8 hours. this is really disturbing me.

i had noticed it before on other episodes but it was really glaring with this one. i think they dont want to spend money on the clothes for all the characters that would be necessary if they followed a time frame more in keeping with actual crime solving.

whats up with all of these minor characters becoming CSIs. its annoying.

have watched many episodes of entourage. love it. freaking hbo is awesome.
